A Designer’s Desk

It’s not news that many of us are working from home these days. I have always run my design business from home, but my desks have taken many forms from the kitchen table to a leaning Crate & Barrel desk in the corner of my husband’s real estate home office. For a while I had a space to myself in our office where I also stored my inventory - then Covid hit and my hubby needed to come back home to work safely and needed an office with doors so he could take calls and Zoom meetings. So now I am in the kitchen at our desk nook and while I may be amidst the crazy of online learning and PJ Mask episodes I wanted my desk to reflect some separation from the rest of the kitchen. So with some small hand tools, joint compound, paint and some heavy duty marble contact paper I went to work! My goal was to declutter, lighten, and create organization. I removed framed photos, a hanging desk utensil holder, a stationary folder divider and that terrible 4” standard backsplash that stunts every backsplash ever! I added an acrylic calendar, wall mounted file holder and some fabulous durable faux marble contact paper from Amazon.
