Inside the Design Process...

Many clients are newbies when it comes to the interior decorating process and that’s totally okay with me. I love that I get to set the standard for transparent interior decorating. When it comes to decorating with ND, I provide some things that not all decorators do: project pricing versus hourly rates, retail trade only discounts, professionally certified services and a down to earth connection with all of my clients. Now that doesn’t mean that my competition is wrong for the way they operate - after all let’s fix each other’s crowns - it just means that I do things the ND way.

Let’s talk about what happens after you contact me for a design service. The first question I’ll ask is what area of town you’re in, so I know if you are in my design reach. Then we will chat about your project and find the best time to meet for an in-home design consultation. Design consultations usually last an hour during which we take a look at your space, establish a goal budget, discuss paint colors, take measurements and review your optimal project timeline. I do not place a room limit on my design consultations, so if clients want me to tour the entire home that’s totally fine. After the design consultation you receive a custom design proposal in the form of a PDF storyboard along with an official ND quote. Once you approve this design proposal and quote, we move forward with a design contract and deposit to reserve a spot on my design calendar.

After a foundation for the design is laid, then the fun stuff starts - shopping for your items! You can be as involved in the design process as you would like, meaning you can approve every item going into the room or you can simply pass the baton to me and I’ll provide that HGTV style reveal at the end of the project. As we move through the purchasing of items for the space, I simultaneously schedule contractors for any quotes and monitor projects with any subcontractors we may need. Once we establish delivery dates for furniture pieces and timelines of contractors then we can set a date for that magical day: Decor Install Day! Many clients have said that they are impressed with how I keep everything straight (this makes me blush honestly), but let’s just say this is the blessing of being a Type A personality and absolutely loving what I do.

As deliveries start pouring in I try to keep of your project items in my inventory room so you aren’t bombarded with deliveries, unless of course they like building forts with all of the boxes (ha!). Some deliveries such as sofas, large cabinets, vanities, countertops - you get the idea - are just too large and expensive to move more than once, so we deliver them directly to your home. For these items, I ask that clients inspect the pieces upon their arrival or I’ll make sure to be there to take care of things in your absence. Also, there are instances in the design process when it doesn’t make sense to have items delivered right away. In those cases, I work directly with retailers to hold the items at their warehouse until we are ready.

Once projects are starting to wrap up, we are ready for the “magical” day that is decor install day! On this day I will recommend using my preferred carpenter for his handyman skills and together we will set-up the room(s). You do not have to home during this day and at the end of the day you return to a beautiful room that is fully dressed and customized to reflect your unique style. I use new accessories as well as your personal existing items to bring my designs to life. Decor should reflect who my clients and their personalities. It should work for your lifestyle and your families. I can make any room look like a showcase, but to me it’s not finished until you can truly see yourself living in it. A final piece to my design process is that you get to live with all of the decor placed in your space for a few days to determine if it works for you. Anything you decide to swap out at the end of the trial period is returned. I truly want my clients to LOVE their rooms - no pressure, no up-sales, only transparency.

Until next time enjoy my new projects and remember “everyone deserves beautiful rooms”.
